Project Oversight Committee
Though this Noahide Laws Study Project's research is being undertaken by the Yeshiva Pirchei Rabbinic Staff the oversight committee is pictured below with a partial biography on each.
Project Director-Rabbi Avraham Chaim Bloomenstiel studied in many of Israel’s preeminent academies of Torah study. He received his ordinations as a rabbi and dayan (adjudicator) from HaRav HaGaon Moshe Halberstam ztz’l (Eidah HaCharedis), Rav Zalman Nechemya Goldberg (former chief justice of the Rabbinical High Court of Jerusalem), Rav Meir Sirota (Eidah HaCharedis) and Rav Dan Channen (moreh hora’ah of Ramat Beit Shemesh).
He was certified as a shochet (kosher slaughterer) by HaRav HaGaon Nesanel Kostelitz and Rabbi Yechezkel Feit (Rosh HaShochtim of Empire Poultry). Rabbi Bloomenstiel learned safrus (scribal practice) in Israel and the United States. His ordinations and certifications as a scribe came from Rav Avraham Tzvi Wosner (Rav of Satmar, Monsey, NY), Rav Moshe Halberstam ztz’l (Eidah HaCharedis), and Rav Dovid Leib Greenfeld (Vaad Mishmeres Stam International). Rabbi Bloomenstiel is recognized as one of the United States’ leading experts on scribal laws, traditions, and practices. He is also the author of the Maayanos HaKesuvim, a multi-volume commentary on the laws of safrus, shechita, milah, and other sections of Shulchan Aruch, and is a contributing author on Jewish topics and religion for the Encyclopedia of Psychology and Religion. Most recently he authored an appendix on the laws of conversion for the book B’nei Avraham Ahuvecha: Gerim in Chassidic Thought.
HaRav Yitzchak Tzvi Oshinsky, a lifelong resident of Jerusalem, Israel is considered one of the shining young Prodigies in the City. He resides in Yerushalayim with his wife and three daughters.
HaRav HaGoan Brodie the Rosh HaYeshiva and head of The Chevron Yeshiva in Ge’ulah (the heart of Jerusalem), in his approbation to R’ Oshinsky’s recent publication on the laws of Mourning (Aveilus) has acclaimed R’ Oshinsky to be one of the great Torah Scholars in the City. His concentration coupled with his ability to clearly understand and explain the subject matter at hand has caused the Rav to be in demand by many nationally and now internationally as he has taken on the role of Chief Lecturer in the area of Aveilus (the laws of mourning) for the Shulchan Aruch Learning Project.
R’ Oshinsky, in addition to his duties at the Shulchan Aruch Project, is a judge in the Jerusalem Jewish Court as well as teaching at Mishkan HaTorah in Yerushalayim as well as conveying lectures to Kollels on Fridays. R’ Oshinsky learned to be a Dayan (judge) in Nishmat Israel in Bayit Vegan, Yerushalayim. He received his Semicha (Rabbinic Ordination) from the Chief Rabbinate of Israel entitling him to be the Rabbi of the City as well as a Dayan for the Chief Rabbinate. In addition the Rav received Semicha from HaRav HaGoan Yitzchak Koliz Z’tl, the Jerusalem Rav and from HaRav R’Nechmia Goldberg Shilta. In addition R’ Avraham Kohen the Rosh HaYeshiva of Nishmat Yisrael also granted Semicha to the Rav and so to from Mifahal HaShas.
R’ Oshinsky as well has authored a book on the Laws of Mourning as well as a book on topics of Money, Community. The Rav’s high level of academic Scholarship has led him to be involved with the examination system in the Rabbinate and thus his incredible innate ability to understand and convey such a difficult area of learning to us is a real privilege and one we expect many from around the world will take advantage of.
