I met Rabbi Lazer Brody for the first time at our World Conference of the Noahide Nations in Dallas during July. I had known about Rabbi Brody and read some books that he had translated and even did a Noahide segment on Tamar Yonah's Weekend Edition for Israel National Radio that followed Rabbi Brody's segment. So I was well aware of Rabbi Brody when I finally did meet him but meeting him was an extrordinary experience.
Rabbi Brody had met with a military Chaplain just prior to the conference and discovered that he was a Noahide. Apparently he had put through a request to his command that would allow him to remove the cross in favor of the number 7 to represent his beliefs as a Noahide. His request was denied due to the fact that no one recognized "Noahide" as a religious belief.
Rabbi Brody also learned that there are a great many Noahide in the military and many more who would follow it if they were allowed to learn what was.
I do not want to bore you with every detail but when Rabbi Brody and I talked about this he was amazed to learn that I was presenting a Noahide Leadership Program at the conference. I let him read the details of the program along with information on the International Torah Fellowship. Afterwards he was so taken by the fact that he thought he was presenting me with the idea of putting together a Noahide Leadership Program in the area of the Chaplaincy only to discover that I had already been working on the program that would get us to the point of being able to have Noahide Chaplains in the military.
Needless to say it was a fabulous discussion we had and the following letter is the result of those discussions.
Kind regards,
Ray Pettersen
