Introduction to the Torah Bookshelf
Any serious discussion of an issue involving Torah law or philosophy will invariably make reference to a wide assortment of the classic works of “Torah literature.” What is the Chumash? Mishna? Talmud? Mishne Torah? Arba’a Turim? Shulchan Aruch,? Mishna Berurah?
Who wrote them and why? How do they interface with each other to create a conclusive view? Join us for an exciting adventure as we discuss these works, and others, and answer these questions. In addition, we will study short selections from each of these authoritative texts.
This course will be taught by Rabbi Joel Zeff and is co-sponsored by the Jewish Studies Initiative of Northern Texas. First class is on Sunday February 5th at 10 am EST in the Academy of Shem.
