There's a bumper sticker (I guess it's on Volkswagons) that says, "You only live once". I used to react strongly against this, saying, "it's false! we have lived before, and we have come back this time."

I used to react strongly against this, saying, "it's false! we have lived before, and we have come back this time."

This is part of a whole teaching about the time we live in, how this lifetime is qualitatively different than any other, by virtue of the fact that, as opposed to previous lifetimes, when we played out a particular role in Hashem's Great Movie, it was a particular scene.

This time is different: this time, we all come back together. That's what's so amazing about this time. There's more to say, but in the meantime, I figured out a way to not react so negatively to this bumper sticker. Now I say like this: "Okay, I get it. When we'll all wake up from this dream, we'll see that it really was all one long movie with different scenes. So in truth, it's really true: You only live once! And it's so deep: Hashem keeps bringing us back to point ONE, like a figure 8, the sign for infinity. It's one long story, but we're always being given a chance to start over, and really take advantage of this incredible opportunity called life.

That's what Days of Awe is about. It usually refers to the High Holidays that come rolling around each year. On a deeper level it means that this time we are living in is a time of Awesome Days. On an even deeper level it means that every moment we are alive is a moment of Awe.
