Professor Vendyl Jones - Biblical Archeology & Copper Scroll

Professor Vendyl Jones
In October of 1956, Vendyl resigned the pastorate and moved to Greenville, South Carolina where he began studies in Talmud Torah with Rabbi Henry Barneis. It was here that he began to learn and teach the Seven Noahide Laws.
This was augmented by studies with Rabbi Max Stauber in Spartanburg SC. Here he continued to know and understand the Bible from the Jewish mindset.
During the following years from 1964 until 1967, Vendyl lectured for the Biblical Research Society. In the framework of that society he established what is today called Vendyl Jones Research Institutes. Since that time his Institute has published articles in what is known as The Researcher promoting G-D, Torah, Israel and the Seven Laws.
In April of 1967, he moved his family to Israel to continue his studies in the Department of Judaica at Hebrew University. He was the first non-Jew to be accepted in that department. Mr. Harold Manson, Director of the American Friends of Hebrew University said: "Vendyl, you blazed the trail that thousands have followed. Had you not persisted, even driving all the way from New Mexico to New York City to make your case known to me in person, there still may be no non-Jews accepted in the Universities Department of Judaica."
In June of 1967, Vendyl was the only American civilian to fight with the Israelis in the six day war. This was reported by Time Magazine June 16th 1967. It was at this time that he began in earnest his search for the Temple Treasures using the Copper Scroll as his guide.
On June 8th through January 1968 Vendyl was on the Steckool/Haas excavation team in Qumran, authorized by the Jordanian Department of Antiquities before the June war. Vendyl has continued his work here, via Status Quo Law, with his friend and mentor, Pesach Bar-Adon.
While in Jerusalem in 1967-1968, Vendyl also studied the mystical side of Judaism with the notable Kabbalist, Haim Shvili and in the Lubervitcher Yeshiva in Jerusalem. In 1968 Vendyl worked on the excavation at Tel Debir (Kiryat HaSepher) with Dr. Moshe Kohavi and Anson Rainey.
In 1970 and 1971 Vendyl represented the Israel Foreign Ministry in a two year lecture forum on college panels to debate with PLO representatives. After the first debate the P.L.O. representatives refused to show.
Vendyl worked for the Israel Government Tourist Office (IGTO) from 1977 through 1979 and wrote the textbooks for the Hebrew University Tourist Guide courses. He was the Southwest Representative for IGTO. In 1979 he excavated the Citadel of David with Hillel Geva .
Vendyl felt that the teaching of the Seven Noahide Laws should be restored under Rabbinic Authority. In 1988 he wrote over thirty letters to Rabbis and Professors who had written on the subject to help restore the teaching of the Noahide Laws. He got zero response!
While in Israel in 1988 he met with the late Rabbi Meir Kahana who had received one of the letters from one of the non-responsive Rabbis. Rabbi Kahana agreed to help re-establish B'nai Noah. They set the meeting for the last week of April in 1990.
On April 1st 1988, his excavation team found a juglet of Holy Anointing Oil made by Moses himself. When the oil had been analyzed and confirmed in October of 1988, Chief Sephardic Rabbi Eliyahu invited Vendyl to his office. Vendyl told him of the planned meeting in Fort Worth Texas with Rabbi Kahana and challenged Rabbi Eliyahu to send representatives from the Chief Rabbinate for the meeting. Bnai Noah was officially re-established under the authority of the Chief Rabbinate of Israel in April 28-30 of 1990.
On April 1st, 1992, using the Copper Scroll as a map, his excavation his team found over 600 kilograms the Holy Incense (Qetorit) from the First Temple Period.
On April 1st, 1994, continuing to use the Copper Scroll, his team found Gilgal, where the Tabernacle stood for 14 years and the place where the vessels of Solomon's Temple were cast.
Professor Jones continues to author books, make appearances on the History Channel and the Discovery Channel, and will always be teaching Noahides. He recently finished a course in the Noahide Nations Torah Learning Center on the History of the Noahides.
